The Dueling Pit in the City of Edgekeep is a place where people can legally kill each other off. The golden rule of the pit is: Only one can leave alive. This rule is enforced by the governor's special guard. Anyone trying to escape from the pit once they are in it (and have not killed their opponent(s) ) will probably be killed as they leave it.
Other rules:
1) The dueling pit is protected against outside magical influences. This means that people can not be teleported into the pit, people can not teleport out of the pit, and magic users outside the pit can not cast spells inside the pit, and magic users inside the pit can not cast spells outside the pit.
2) If you have been challenged to a duel in the pit, the Referee's will assume that you are not accepting UNLESS you post a message in the Dueling Pit room that is anything OTHER than something like the following. "I do not accept this duel." If you leave e-mail to the person who challenged you, it will be assumed that you are in the pit with your opponent.
