BBS System Information

A bit of important history and thanks:

Gateway to Reality started in October 1988 in a dormitory on the University of Washington campus in Seattle, Washington.

In January of 1990, Gateway to Reality's 8mhz XT clone melted its motherboard in three different places due to a carelessly placed screwdriver. Thanks to the generosity of a no-interest loan for $1200 from the user known as Cloudburst, this bulletin board system went back up running on a speed demon for the time, a 386 25mhz machine, and is currently still running, though at this time (1996) the hardware has been upgraded and downgraded uncountable times.

From January 1995-August 1996, Gateway to Reality was running on an IBM compatable 386sx 25mhz Laptop clone with a 28k Supra modem (modem courtesy of Phaedrus). It used to be running on a 300-2400 baud hayes compatable modem borrowed for the duration from Laslo Tremaine who had been generous in loaning it out. After a while it broke and we used it for a doorstop and upgraded to a 14.4k modem which Phaedrus, who tends to read very fast, decided wasn't fast enough for him.

In August of 1996 the Laptop clone seemed to be near death, joining it's partner as a doorstop, when Phaedrus once again stepped in and decided to give the BBS a bit of extra life by donating enough cash for the purchase of a new AMD 586 133mhz machine. Many thanks go to Phaedrus for his continued support of the board at times when the Referee is unable to.
