There are five main attributes for characters on Gateway to Reality.

Strength, Constitution, Dexterity, Intelligence, and Charisma.

Each of the attributes has a distribution of power into seperate catagories. This distribution will tell the Referee's a bit more about how your character is balanced. And, balanced is the keyword. It is ok to shift the balance, but you >will< have problems if you shift it too much--lowering any attribute below 25 is really asking for trouble. Below each attribute, there's a list of various elements of that attribute. (For example, "Arms", "Legs", and "Torso" are elements of Strength.) All of these elements start at "=", which mean that you don't have any particular strengths or weaknesses within that attribute. If you want to strength a particular element--for example, if you want your character to have particularly good arm strength--you can change the "Arms" element from "=" to "+"; this will raise your Strength score by 10 points for the purposes of arm strength. But if you change an element from "=" to "+", you must change some other element of the same attribute (for example, "Legs" for Strength) from "=" to "-"; that gives your Strength score a 10-point penalty when dealing with leg strength. So, in other words, for each attribute, the number of "+"'s must equal the number of "-"'s; for each strong element, there must be a weak element of the same attribute. For detailed information on attributes see the ATTRIB.HLP file.
