This is the description of a duel between the famed Innsbruck and newcomer, Black Arrow in the month of October, year 1989, Mercenaries Guild, City of Edgekeep. Black Arrow and Innsbruck find their way into a cleared out area next to the Mercenary guild hall. It is afternoon and the sun is bright, even though the fall air has a slight chill in it... the mountain tops to the north are already whitened by early snows. Though no action has yet taken place, the duelers breaths both show in the air before them. They carry wooden swords and hold them at the ready. Certainly not fatal, these swords could still inflict quite a bruise, or worse. Innsbruck and Black Arrow nod at each other, and other mercenaries hold people back to give the duelers room. They hold their sword ready, but differntly. Both looking to be trained fighters, they walk with the grace of many years experience. Innsbruck holding her weapon as if it were part of her body, Black Arrow holding his like a delicate yet deadly object. Then Black Arrow lashes out, seemingly catching Innsbruck off guard, for as she steps back for a block her feet stumble on some loose rock. There is an audible gasp from the bystanders, for Innsbruck is the favorite of the duel. Hoping to make it short and painless, Black Arrow steps in to make the "killing" hit, only to find that in a quick motion Innbruck had rolled tothe side and used her leg to sweep his out from under him, leaving him precariously balanced on nothing. He falls hard and the momentary pain is evident on his face. He gets up, watching Innsbruck as she prepares herself once again, and then they both charge in. The wooden swords crash as they parry and swing, each duelist seeming to have an unblockable blow, until the other blocks it. The duel goes on and both people are visibly tiring, each seemingly the match for the other. Then Innsbruck loses her wooden sword as Black Arrow is able to knock it from her grasp. He steps in and swings for her mid-section, totally missing as she leaps over the swing acrobatically, landing and rolling and picking up her sword, and in the same motion "slicing" Black Arrow's back wide open. It is obviously a killing blow. The crowd cheers, for they always knew Innsbruck couldn't lose, and some of the men congratulate Black Arrow on his ability to last so long. The Gatekeepr then calls for attention and says, "Green Ales on the house for the fighters and the spectators!!" With that a large group of the roudiest men hurry towards the Twisted Dagger.
