Raoul Thantious Statement of events at the Barnacle Inn As I was walking towards the beach, I noticed a crowd had gathered at the Barnacle Inn. It seemed to be of unusual size, so, giving in to natural curiosity, I decided to look in on it. When I was able to get to the front of the crowd, and look inside the inn, I could tell something was up. Sounds of shouting were coming from inside, like an argument, and some of the city guard were ringing the place. I looked in through a window, and I could make out that many people were inside. I saw that some of the principal arguers, leaders, I guess, were Arutha, Garen, Davmar, and Ebyndark. I have not previously met most of them, and had been acquainted with a few, briefly. They seemed to be arguing about ownership of the inn, or throwing the peasants out, or somesuch. Arutha was making verbal threats of violence, while Ebyndark broke something, apparently to show he meant business. One of the peasants spoke up and said he wasn't scared. He was attempting to rouse the others to resist with some sort of rhetoric. He didn't make any threats, though. Another person, whom I later learned was called Davmar, stepped in between the two groups, brandishing weapons. He implied that he would fight with the peasants. At this point, my employer, Master Threndore, began to prepare a sleep spell of some sort. Arutha told the peasants to get out "or else", and Davmar - he insulted the Governor - called him a tyrant! I'm surprised the guards didn't do anything! He said something about "either we talk or we fight", or words to that effect. At this point, the one in black, Ebyndark, grabbed the lead peasant and physically assaulted his person, holding him and telling him to apologize for being annoying. Just then this ape, yeah, I mean ay-pee-ee, points a BALISTA in the window. Don't get me wrong, I've met this ape before - Kuzman or something - and he seemed peaceable enough. Still... Apparently, Arutha didn't see this, and was emboldened by the Ôninja' fellows actions, and proceeded to try to bop this Davmar on the head with a mace. Now, of all times, the guard decides to try to put order into the situation. The Seargant tells them to halt, and says the property belongs to Duke Stephen and this Garen fellow. Ahh, now I remember, that's right. Apparently Garen is the one claiming to own the inn, and about this time he becomes, ah, miffed. He lets loose with a big speech about how they could have worked it out before, blah, blah, blah. He says that someone named...let me see...ah, here it is: "Timbar Tarnhoist". At any rate, he says that this is the person who put the peasants in their current fix, but he isn't around now, is he? He calls him a thief, gets even madder than before, if that was possible, and says "Get out or have your skull crushed, unless there are any further arguments" or something very close to that. All this seems to have stopped any immediate hostilities, and a few folk took this time to leave. I think a centuar was among them. The Ôninja' seemed to have calmed down some, but that Arutha character told all the peasants to leave or pay the piper. The rabble-rouser, ignoring that, more or less accuses Garen of murdering Timbar Tarhoist, and attempts to turn the guard to their cause. A hopeless case, as the guard didn't seem to wand to be involved in anything that day. Something about the ape must have annoyed Garen, because he threw a mug at him. It didn't hit, however, and the ape proceeded to grab a keg from the inn. Just about then is when things get a little bit difficult to make out. Arutha layed out the rabble-rouser with his mace, and the rabble started pelting him with everything within reach. The Ôninja' started slicing folk in two, and Garen started hitting peasants with an odd-looking club. The Seargent ordered the guards to go in, but about this time, a lot of peasants starting coming out the windows like rats off a sinking ship. The guards apparently decided that chasing peasants was better than going into a fight, because that is what they did. Arutha and Davmar were going at each other like a pair of fighting cocks, and the ÔNinja' kept lopping off anything within reach. Master Threndore threw several good sleep spells, saving many of the peasants, although, er, he did manage to put a few guardsmen out. It was an accident, to be sure. Apparently Arutha vanquished Davmar, as the next time I saw the latter, he was laying in a pool of his own blood. The former did a good turn by helping Master Threndore, who was beset by peasants, you understand, and repulsed that lot. Needn't have worried, as Graven had conjured himself away by that time. Around then, the oddest thing happened. This fog started brewing up around the inn, out of nowhere. I was trying to stop some of the nastier fighters, but the damn guards wouldn't let me. Just kept guard on the doors, stood by, and let it all happen. I still don't believe it. And inside, I could see Ebyndark, clawing folk apart and laughing like a maniac. Did I say Ôlike a maniac'? He was one, full up with blood lust. The fog grew all around, and her ladyship, Dragon Queen, had shown up. She started in with a few spells, but I could not discern their effects. A glow covered the inn, and I could still hear fighting from within. Eventually, one of the Advisors to the Governor and the Leftenant showed up. The Leftenant, who didn't know what was going on, started brown-nosing the the Advisor. The Seargent chipped in on how he thought the best thing to do was nothing at all, and... I'm sorry, but that still gets my blood up a bit. Well, shall I continue? I am sure the guard did the best they could do...not knowing the circumstances, and all. An illusion of the god Poseidon appeared, and threatened destruction if things didn't stop. That seemed to put an end to the fighting. No, I'm not absolutely sure it was only an illusion, but that is my guess. A little after this, I helped with the wounded, as best I could. I couldn't find any people that were Ôonly wounded' by Ebyndark. Most of Arutha's victims seemed to have been hit in the vital areas, as well. It was a horrifying mess. I'd say many more folk died there than had any right to, in that kind of brawl. Another thing: I noticed that my magic was...easier than normal. Don't know if it's important. Well, that's about it. Oh. One more thing. There was a lad with the guards...Ahnz was the name, I think. He preformed quickly and correctly, without stepping on anyones toes, for the most part. Mention this to the Seargent, or the Leftenant, will you? Signed,
